Project: Whitby Beach Dog Ban Area - Part 1

The Issue

Scarborough Borough Council recently extended the dog ban area of Whitby beach, which forces disabled and elderly dog walkers to access the beach via steps that are unsafe due to their poor state of repair.

The Project

The Forum has been asked to support a campaign to put the boundary back to where it was in 2017, and has agreed to ask Scarborough Borough Council to:

• Carry out an accessibility risk assessment

• Consider an appropriate way forward that takes serious consideration of the accessibility needs of both local people and the many visitors to Whitby

• Meet with Forum representatives; to consider a suitable, and safe, solution to the problem
